TRIBUTES PAID TO LEUKAEMIA VICTIM TUESDAY
A LONG battle with cancer ended last week for a brave 21-year-old who will be
remembered for her smile.
Tuesday O'Hara died on January 24 and her family this week paid tribute to her strength
throughout
her fight with Acute Lymphoblastic leukaemia.
Her mum Sue, of Sidcup Close, said, "She wanted people to remember her as mad, fun-loving.
"We have had hundreds of cards from people saying how funny and how funky she was.
She loved to laugh. Even through her illness she wasn't sad."
Tuesday was first diagnosed with the cancer when she was 18 and had endured almost
four years of treatment.
She had a bone marrow transplant last October but her condition deteriorated,
leaving her
without the use of her legs towards the end of her life.
She was admitted to Eastbourne District General Hospital on Monday, January 22 and
died two days later with a crowd of family and friends at her bedside.
Sue said, "She wouldn't want people to be sad.
"We have booked two time slots at the crematorium for her funeral so as many people
as possible can come and we can take our time to say goodbye."
Tuesday's name will be spelt out on her white coffin in her favourite colour: baby blue.
Family and friends are also planning to wear light blue and black to the ceremony, with many remembering being told by Tuesday to wear jeans, hoodies and trainers – along with odd socks.
Sue said, "Odd socks are optional but Tuesday would never wear matching socks.
It's just the way she was. She liked things to be different."
Tuesday's character was summed up to all that knew her in the things she did despite her illness.
She chose to abseil rather than go to hospital on a day she was due for a blood transfusion and she named her much-loved dog, a Rottweiler puppy, Chemo after her cancer treatment.
The funeral is at Eastbourne Crematorium on Tuesday, February 6 at 9.15am

Tuesday O'Hara.
HUNDREDS MOURN THE DEATH OF TUESDAY, 21
HUNDREDS of friends of Tuesday O'Hara packed into her funeral this week to say a fitting goodbye.
Wearing odd socks and baby blue clothes, around 300 people filled a double time slot at Eastbourne Crematorium to give the 21-year-old cancer patient a send off she would have approved of.
She died in hospital on January 24 with a crowd of loved ones at her bedside.
Her white coffin was surrounded by teddy bears, flowers and blue and white helium balloons.
An order of service booklet made by her dad Frank showed photos of Tuesday, who will be remembered for her constant smile and fiery personality which shone throughout four years of treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic leukaemia.
The booklet ended with a line Tuesday had said she would be thinking at her funeral, "I don't know why you're all crying, I'm the one who's f***ing dead."
Tuesday's mother Sue, of Sidcup Close in Langney, said, "For such a sad situation it was such a beautiful day.
"Even the funeral directors said they had never seen a funeral like it and that we had done her proud."
Mourners included old school friends from West Rise and Ratton, oncologist Dr Grace, hospital staff and her former teacher Richard Goddard, who read the family's tribute at the service and led the funeral procession driving Tuesday's car.
A poem written by Tuesday, called Sick to Death, was read by Father Jonathan Graves, who also followed her orders and wore odd socks.
The song Everything's Tuesday by Chairman of the Board was played.
Mr O'Hara made a pair of his daughter's trademark trainers into a feature of the service by planting flowers in them and placing them next to her white coffin which had her name on it in baby blue.
The shoes were later taken to the wake at The Hart in Cavendish Place, which was filled to capacity as photos of Tuesday from birth to just days before her death were displayed.
Sue said, "We all clapped at the end to see Tuesday off. "To know she was loved by so many people was just unbelievable.
Pupils at a school in San Francisco who have been following Tuesday’s illness through on of the teachers wore baby blue and odd socks on the day of her funeral.
By the end of the evening Tuesday’s friends had taken her trainers on a pub crawl through the town centre holding them aloft and dancing behind them.
"If she had chosen this funeral herself, she would have loved it." 09 February 2007
